Kevin Salter

I'm Kevin Salter. I build software, lead engineering teams, and coach minor sports in Coquitlam, BC.

I grew up in a small town in Ontario playing rep hockey and eventually moved east to study English Literature at Dalhousie. After university I spent a few years playing in bands and touring before landing in Vancouver and falling into software development.

I've spent my entire career at startups. Fifteen years of building products, shipping software, and more recently leading the engineers who do the same. I'm currently an Engineering Manager, managing multiple teams and around ten senior engineers across several product lines. The shift from individual contributor to leadership taught me that the hardest problems in software aren't technical. They're about people, communication, and making sure everyone has what they need to do their best work.

In 2025 I started Saltr Labs, a boutique software studio focused on building products using AI-augmented development workflows. The first product is Rinkflow, an AI-powered practice planning app for hockey coaches. I built it because I coach my son's team and got tired of the planning grind that every volunteer coach deals with. It's live on the App Store and I'm actively bringing it to minor hockey associations across Canada.

Outside of work, I'm a hockey dad, a guitar player, and an aspiring studio builder. My son plays goalie, my daughter does gymnastics, soccer, and figure skating, and my wife holds everything together while I balance a full-time job, a startup, and early morning ice times.
