Kevin Salter

I'm Kevin Salter.
I build software, lead engineering teams, and coach minor sports in Coquitlam, BC.

I grew up in a small town in Ontario playing hockey and lacrosse, and eventually moved east to study English Literature at Dalhousie. After university I spent a few years playing guitar in bands and touring before landing in Vancouver and starting my software development career.

I've spent my entire career at startups. Seventeen years of building products, shipping software, and more recently leading the engineers who do the same. I'm currently Head of Engineering, Sportsbook at Betr, leading nine engineers across two product teams. The shift from individual contributor to leadership taught me that the hardest problems in software aren't technical. They're about people, communication, and making sure everyone has what they need to do their best work.

As a side project, I run Saltr Labs, where I build custom AI employees for businesses: digital teammates that take the repetitive busywork off a team's plate so people can focus on the work only they can do. I also build my own products. Rinkflow is an AI-powered practice planning app for hockey coaches, which I built because I coach my son's team and got tired of the planning grind every volunteer coach deals with. It's live on the App Store and Google Play, and I'm bringing it to minor hockey associations across Canada. And for fun, I build little side projects like Furmous, a silly AI pet-portrait store I made to make my kids laugh that accidentally became a real, working store.

Outside of work, I coach my kids' sports team, unwind by playing some guitar or piano in the evenings, and experiment with different side projects. My son is a hockey goalie and my daughter does gymnastics and soccer — and my wife holds everything together through all of our busy weeks.
